The Cemagref and Fraunhofer UMSICHT are carrying out a common project about the further development of Phase Change Slurries (PCSs) for cold storage and distribution applications. The project is financed by the Programme Inter Carnot Fraunhofer, a common programme from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR).

Phase Change Slurry (PCS) is a binary fluid consisting of a Phase Change Material (PCM) as the dispersed phase and water as the continuous phase. PCSs having desirable properties will be developed based on the cooperation of the partners. Within the project, the partners will exchange the scientific and technical expertise about PCSs. Scientific and technical breakthroughs (e.g. combination of CO2 hydrates and paraffin-in-water emulsions) and a final PCS product with comparative advantages and market potential are expected to be achieved through this cooperation of Carnot and Fraunhofer institutes.
